LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team had their 12-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday afternoon in a 16-6 loss to Upper Iowa. Jewell moves to 13-4 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jewell, who played as the visitors after the game was moved from Fayette to Liberty, got on the board first as Cole Conner singled to right center, scoring Alex Epp who had doubled. 
  • The Peacocks took the lead in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on three hits, including a grand slam to open up a 6-1 lead. 
  • The Cardinals got one back in the following frame as Epp singled through the left side, scoring Cale Blasi, but UIU came back with six more in the bottom half of the inning on five hits. 
  • Kaden Owens blasted a three run home run early in the fourth inning before Epp added another on an RBI single to cut the deficit to six. 
  • Upper Iowa added three runs in the fourth and ended the game in run-rule fashion with a solo home run to lead off the seventh. 

KEY STATS

  • Epp went 3-for-4 from the dish with two RBI and a runs scored. 
  • Owens drove in three runs while Blasi led the team with two runs. 
  • Starter Chandler Jones (1-2) took the loss, giving up six earned runs on three hits. 
  • Seven Cardinal pitchers appeared in the game as Levi Ebersoldt tossed the final 2.2 frames, allowing just one earned run.
