SCAM ALERT: A resident called us today to report that a man with a foreign accent called him to say he won $1.2 million from Publishers Clearinghouse. But first, of course, he had to get a $499 gift card to help with transfer fees or some such nonsense. (Anything in which you have to pay money to “win” money is a scam.) The scammer knew the resident’s name, address and birthdate. (That kind of information can be found online for most people.)
Gift cards = a big red scam flag. Thankfully, the resident didn’t fall for it, but he wanted to ensure others knew about the scam in case they get a similar call. Please pass on the information to your elderly loved ones, too!
