The Clay County Sheriff’s Office announced on April 13 that detectives are investigating a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian. The incident occurred early in the morning when a semitruck driver reported seeing someone lying on Edgar Petty Road, just north of NE 116th Street, adjacent to Interstate 35.
Authorities said deputies arrived at the scene four minutes after the report and found a deceased man on the road. It appeared that an unknown vehicle had struck him and left without stopping. Investigators closed Edgar Petty Road for several hours to collect evidence, with assistance from the Platte County Sheriff’s Office in surveying the crash site.
Detectives believe that based on evidence recovered at the scene, the suspect vehicle is likely a 2013-18 Ford Focus. They are working to identify the victim and will notify his next of kin before releasing his name.
Officials noted that the vehicle involved probably has fresh damage from the collision. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact either the Clay County Sheriff’s Investigations Unit at 816-407-3728 or call anonymously through the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek more information from potential witnesses or anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area.
