The Clay County Sheriff’s Office held a ceremony on December 8 to recognize deputies and staff for acts of bravery and outstanding service. The event took place at the new Law Enforcement Resource Center.
Sheriff Will Akin presented several awards, including a Meritorious Service Award to a deputy and a Citizen Certificate of Appreciation to a Good Samaritan. Both were recognized for intervening to save a young woman who was attempting to jump off a bridge. Other deputies received the Life-Saving Award for helping rescue a runaway teenager experiencing a drug overdose. In addition, a K9 deputy and his dog were honored with the Special Commendation for achieving results in human tracking that surpassed national averages.
A total of 17 awards and recognitions were given during this semi-annual ceremony.
“These are just some of the 17 different awards and recognitions that took place Monday in the semi-annual ceremony at the new Law Enforcement Resource Center,” said Sheriff Will Akin.
