Cardinals Drop Two at Drury

OZARK, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Drury University on Sunday afternoon by finals of 12-5 and 7-1 to close the series. The Cardinals fall to 14-7 on the season and 5-3 in conference play. 

Game 1 (Drury 12, Jewell 5)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jewell took the early lead in the opener, scoring three runs in the first inning. Will Brant doubled to left, plating Alex Epp and Cole Conner, who both walked. Dawson Tweet followed with a single to left field to score Brant for another run. 
  • The Panthers got one run back in the bottom half of the first before adding another in the third, two in the fourth and eighth in the fifth to take a commanding 12-3 lead. 
  • The Cardinals got two back in the top of the sixth on RBI from Jordan Phillips and another base hit from Tweet but could get no closer. 
KEY STATS

  • Jewell totaled six hits, as Tweet and Epp each had two, including a double. 
  • On the mound, Jake MacDonald (0-3) took the loss, working 3.1 frames, allowing three earned runs. 
Game 2 (Drury 7, Jewell 1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Drury got on the board first in the weekend finale, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second. The Panthers added a run in third and fourth frames and two more in the sixth to open up a 7-0 lead. 
  • Jewell got on the board in the top of the ninth as Phillips led off with a double to center field and came around to score on a single to right off the bat of Tweet. 
KEY STATS

  • Tweet and Drew Reed each posted two hits while Brant reached twice via a walk. 
  • Jackson Bodinson (2-1) suffered the loss, allowing seven earned over 5.1 innings.
