The University of Missouri School of Medicine has awarded Carl Myers, MD, the first Dean’s Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Myers, a primary care physician at Meritas Health Platte City and a 1974 graduate of the MU School of Medicine, has been recognized for his efforts in fundraising for his medical class scholarship.
Over ten years, Dr. Myers increased the scholarship fund from less than $10,000 to over $500,000 by sending personal letters. He continues to work with alumni to raise funds and make medical education more accessible.
Dr. Myers stated, “The cost of tuition is going to continue to rise. We should want to give back. Where would we be without education? We didn’t get here by ourselves.”
North Kansas City Hospital (NKCH), where Dr. Myers practices through its Meritas Health subsidiary, has served as a key healthcare provider in Northland for over 67 years. NKCH is an acute care facility with 451 licensed beds and more than 600 physicians across 49 specialties.
